FedEx 2025 Holiday Deadlines and Surcharges

FedEx Holiday Shipping Deadlines 2025

To ensure delivery by Christmas, December 25, 2025, FedEx recommends these shipping deadlines if using their services:

  • FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery: December 17, 2025

    • +$2.10 per package (Nov. 24–Dec. 28)

  • FedEx Additional Handling (U.S. + International Ground)

    • +$8.25 per package (Sept. 29–Nov. 23, Dec. 29–Jan. 18)

    • +$10.90 per package (Nov. 24–Dec. 28)

    • +$108.50 per package (Nov. 24–Dec. 28)

If you’re sending more than 20,000+ residential packages a week, FedEx also applies a dynamic “Residential Delivery Peaking Charge” based on how much your volume spikes. That fee can range from $1.55 to $7.50 per package on top of the flat surcharge. For most brands, though, only the flat charges above will apply.

FedEx holiday surcharges from October 27, 2025 to January 18, 2026 with flat-rate fees for Ground Residential and All Express Parcel shipments.

UPS 2025 Holiday Deadlines & Surcharges

UPS Holiday Shipping Deadlines 2025

*As of Oct. 1, 2025, UPS hasn’t published a firm holiday cutoff for UPS Ground Saver or UPS Ground. Instead, they direct customers to use their online shipping calculator for transit estimates. Because the calculator only lets you project so far in advance, the dates listed above are based on UPS’s official 2024 holiday deadlines — but we recommend padding shipments with extra lead time to stay safe.

UPS Holiday Surcharges 2025

    • +$107 per package (Nov. 23–Dec. 27)

Higher-volume shipper caveat:

If you ship 20,000+ residential packages in a week, UPS applies a dynamic surcharge based on how much you exceed your June baseline volume. These surcharges can climb steeply — up to $7.50 per package for Ground or $8.75 per package for Air Residential at the highest thresholds.

For most small-to-mid sized eCommerce brands, the flat $0.40–$0.60 (Ground) and $1.10–$2.05 (Air) holiday surcharges will be the ones to budget for.

How to Plan for Higher Holiday Shipping Costs & Carrier Cutoffs

Now that you’ve seen how UPS, FedEx, and USPS are adjusting rates and deadlines this peak season, the next step is making those changes work within your own operations. Holiday surcharges and earlier cutoffs are unavoidable—but they don’t have to derail your margins or customer experience. With the right adjustments to pricing, communication, and internal processes, you can stay ahead of higher costs and tighter timelines.

  • Raise the Free Shipping Bar: Free shipping is still a major conversion driver, but it can be costly during Q4. Consider raising your threshold a little higher. Many brands set it around 20% over their average order value (AOV). By adjusting this threshold, you can encourage larger carts while still protecting your margins.

  • Proactive Communication: Keep your customers informed by updating holiday cutoff dates across your site. Place reminders on banners, product detail pages, FAQs, and at checkout. Add these dates to all of your marketing emails, no matter how early in advance. Clear communication reduces surprises and encourages shoppers to order earlier.

  • Pad Dates: Carriers often face delays and don’t guarantee delivery on ground services during peak season. To stay safe, move your published cutoff dates one or two days earlier than the official carrier deadlines. That buffer helps ensure packages arrive on time.

  • Audit your Logistics: Prepare your operations for the holiday surge. Set earlier internal deadlines for order processing, audit your packaging to avoid costly oversize fees, and add seasonal warehouse staff where needed. These adjustments keep fulfillment smooth when volumes spike.

From September to December 2025: Your Holiday Shipping Roadmap

Staying ahead during the holidays takes more than knowing carrier deadlines; it requires a clear Q4 game plan. Research shows most shoppers start buying weeks in advance, while carriers often update service alerts as volume spikes.

Breaking prep into monthly milestones helps you budget for surcharges, streamline operations, and keep customers confident with clear, proactive communication.

September
Confirm carrier contracts and know your surcharge terms. Update checkout messaging with early holiday reminders so customers know deadlines are coming.

October
Run test orders through FedEx, UPS, and USPS. Check transit times, shipping costs, and tracking updates to make sure your systems are ready before peak volume hits. Recalculate your current AOV and adjust free shipping thresholds if necessary.

November
Publish shipping cutoff dates everywhere, site banners, product pages, FAQs, checkout, email campaigns, and social channels. Clear deadlines build confidence and drive earlier purchases.

December
Monitor carrier alerts daily and be ready to adjust messaging quickly. Communicate often with customers via email or SMS to manage expectations and avoid service issues.

Planning ahead not only saves you money and stress but also keeps your customers happy when it matters most. By staying on top of carrier deadlines and factoring in seasonal surcharges, you give your business the best chance at smooth, reliable fulfillment.
